Why It’s Smarter To Buy A Used Car | AD

I’ve always been someone who loves the experience and feel of a brand new car but there’s no denying that driving a brand new car off a forecourt ultimately costs you a lot of money. Most brand new cars depreciate significantly as soon as you drive them for the first time and will continue to depreciate quickly throughout ownership, up to around 30% in the first year alone. Buying a used car will ultimately save you a lot of money in several ways and if you’re on a budget this is definitely going to be the best option for you.

If you’re purchasing a car on hire purchase or PCP you can expect your monthly payments to be much less with a used car and it’s likely you’ll be able to pay it off more quickly. It’s also worth noting that pre April 2017 tax rates are generally lower than new car rates. Another plus point to buying a used car is that insurance is generally cheaper as the car will not be as high a value as a brand new car.

Some people may worry that buying a used car will mean inheriting someone else’s problems but these days when you buy a used car from a dealership they will often come with many of the benefits as a new car such as a warranty period and servicing included.

One of the main things that appeals to me about the option of buying a used car is that they’re generally available to take home with you much quicker than ordering a brand new car. I’ve purchased many brand new cars in the past and have often had to wait at least three to four months for the car to be built and delivered. If you’re someone like me who gets quite impatient then this can be really frustrating! I like the fact that you can view a used car in person and get to experience the car fully before purchasing.

There’s a huge amount of choice in the used car market and as cars continue to improve in quality, and become more and more reliable, this means that the options for buying used have never been better!
